Submitting Music to SoundFM

What formats can be submitted to SoundFM for potential airplay?

We accept all CD and vinyl submissions (7″, 10″, 12″) for review and possible airplay. We do not accept unsolicited MP3 or digital submissions.

What else should I include with my submission?

It is helpful to include a one-page biography to tell us about yourself with your submission. There is no need to throw in a poster or glossy picture, although we would love to have a picture of you on our wall! We accept submissions of all genres including spoken word pieces. Please make sure that the artist/band, album title and track listing are included in the liner notes, as well as a way to get in touch with the artist or representatives.

What happens once I send you my submission?
Add a couple days onto the standard shipping times as your CD has to navigate its way through the University of Waterloo mail system to get it to us. Once our amazing mail carrier drops it off to the station, it is entered into our system and put on the 'New Release' wall in our main studio. Any one-pagers will be added to the new release binder in the same studio.

The CD will be available to our programmers for approximately 4 weeks, sometimes longer. If it has had positive reviews and plays it will be digitalized and entered into our digital music library. The hard copy will remain in the station archives.

We cannot return any CD to the sender regardless of addition to our digital or physical library.

Does SoundFM place CDs in rotation or on a playlist?

No, we are open-format. Our Programmers pick what songs they choose to air on their shows. If accepted, your CD will be placed with the other new releases that we have within the live booth. If selected for digitalization, the CD will forever be a part of the SoundFM library.

Why did my CD not get added to your permanent library?

There are many reasons why a CD would be passed upon. The most common is that it simply wasn't played or commented on by any programmer. That's not a comment on the quality of your music, it's just that we get a lot (and we mean a lot!) of CDs every week, and we can't sit down and listen to them all sadly enough.
You can always try to contact individual programmers to let them know about your music, but we can't make any guarantees.
